SEO strategies for your landscaping business

 In today’s internet era, customers are searching for products and services on Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines. It is therefore very important for landscaping companies to be visible on search engines as customers are searching for your services.

 Customers are searching for “landscapers in city x”, “landscaping services near me”, etc. You need to appear on the first page of Google when such and other related keywords are searched for to drive relevant traffic to your website. Search Engine Optimization is the most effective marketing strategy for your business as you are targeting people who are already interested in the services you offer.

 The following are SEO tips to drive traffic to your landscaping website:

1. Create a website

 Build a quality website and create a separate page for each of the services you offer. Each of these pages can be ranked by Google when clients search for keywords related to those services. Most company websites list all their services on a single page. They are losing out on search engine ranking opportunities.

 With a page for each service, the services should be well elaborated with the use of the right keywords, and this leads us to the next section.

2. Keyword research

 Find out the keywords your potential clients are using on Google and use them on your website when describing your services. There are several ways to find out potential keywords. 

 Put yourself in your customers` shoes. When you need a landscaper, which keywords would you look for? Whatever keywords you have in mind are probably the ones in your customers` minds. Try searching for those keywords on the internet and Google will give you suggestions on the related keywords. At the bottom of the Google results, there are also suggestions on the related searches which can guide you.

 There are also keyword tools that help identify keywords for a specific industry. Try google AdWords which is an effective keyword tool from Google. Look out for other keyword tools and compare results.

3. Killer content

 Your potential clients are not just searching for landscaping services on Google. They are also looking for information to enlighten themselves on various issues ranging from the best landscaping designs to others. Understand your customers` needs and determine which questions they might have in their minds and if they need professional answers, then answer these questions in the form of a blog post.

 Customers do not want to be sold to through over-promotional materials, but instead, want to be educated to make their own informed buying decisions. Provide this education for free. Address various topics in landscaping and post them in your blog.

 Content marketing through blogging positions you as an expert in landscaping. Customers are looking for valuable information and when purchasing needs arise, they remember the brands which were there for them when they needed information. 

4. Build inbound links

 The best way for your content to be valuable in the eyes of Google is to have quality external links to your site. An example is a quality journal article discussing a landscaping topic and then giving the readers a link to one of your blog posts discussing the same topic in depth. Such a link is called an inbound link. It shows that the journal linking to you trusts you and the more valuable the journal is, the more quality your blog post will be in the eyes of Google which will rank you higher in their search results.

 Having a link from a respected landscaping association is a good way to improve your image in the eyes of Google. The best way to get quality backlinks is to create informative content that will attract inbound links, as opposed to paying for links or providing links in exchange for links to your posts.

 Follow and engage other writers and bloggers in the landscaping field on social media to build relationships with them. They might notice your content and link back to it. Also, provide inbound links to other articles you find informative without asking for links in return. If they find your posts informative, they will link back. The key is creating killer content that others will find worthy of linking to.

5. Local SEO

 Your most relevant clients are the ones in your local area. It is therefore important to put more effort into targeting clients in your city using SEO. Furthermore, most internet users search for service providers in their area and it is therefore important to ensure your visibility when local users search for landscapers in their area. 

 SEO focused on local searches is called local SEO. Below are reasons, among others, why local SEO should be a priority:

i) To capitalize on the local market who are likely to buy.

ii) Most internet users are searching for local service providers.

iii) It is less competitive as there might be few or no landscapers in your area.

 To capitalize on local SEO, use local keywords e.g. “A landscaping company in city Y”, etc. Also, create a Google My Business account and add your city, phone number, address, etc. This will go a long way in getting found by local clients searching for your services.

6. Collect analytics 

 It is important to measure the impact of your SEO efforts. Using Google Analytics or Google Search Console, you can measure the traffic coming to your website and which keywords searches are driving the most traffic. This will help you know which keywords to focus on and which new keywords to introduce.

 Also conduct an SEO audit to identify issues in your website that are influencing your SEO, either positively or negatively. This will help you make relevant changes to your website to improve your SEO.

 If you invest in a quality website, quality content, and SEO best services, you are on your way to positioning your landscaping company as a dominant player in the industry. However, SEO is not a destination, but rather a journey that keeps evolving and you have to keep evolving as well to stay ahead of your competitors.
